There are more than 2,000 merchants around the country, many of them online businesses. But you can also find deals at bigger names like JC Penney and Land's End. And smaller local businesses are also taking advantage of a chance to recruit new customers.
One week to go, and for many, there are lots of gifts still to buy and send across the country.
Friday there is some relief for shoppers hoping to get their gifts delivered by Christmas burdened by the high cost of shipping. More than 2,300 merchants around the country are shipping items for free Friday, with the guarantee they will make it to their destinations by Christmas Eve.
Samy's Camera in L.A. is taking it a step further, offering free shipping all month. It's an expensive endeavor, but one that businesses say attracts new customers. The store has nearly 600 packages on order at the warehouse.
Most of the orders are online or by phone, but occasionally shoppers come into the store and pick an item to send to someone else. But for last-minute shoppers just finding out about the deals, or those who want to avoid crowded malls, there are still a few hours left in the day to take advantage of the bargains.
