Burglars strike six SUVs in Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.

The burglaries occurred between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. at three separate locations in the city, including the 3400 block of Via Lido, the 900 block of Newport Center Drive and Hoag Drive.

Six cars total were targeted; four were Cadillac Escalades, one was a Chevy Tahoe and another was a GMC Yukon. The burglars removed the cars' in-dash navigation systems. The suspects also removed a third row seat from one vehicle and the steering wheel air bag from another.

All of the vehicles were locked and parked in a parking structure when the burglaries occurred.

To prevent third row seat theft, the Newport Beach Police Department suggests engraving your vehicle's VIN on the seat's frame, using a bike-style cable lock to secure the seat inside the car and removing and storing the seat in the garage when not in use.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to the Newport Beach Police Department at (949) 644-3717.
