Jack Thompson's house is completely cut off by flowing lava from the island's erupting volcano. People can only get in and out by helicopter. Thompson built the home in 1983, and now the lava is less than 200 yards away.
"It's so much around me now that I have become a low spot and it's pouring in here," said Thompson. "It can go anywhere else, but once it starts pouring in here it's going to take everything I think."
Thompson's house is only one of two structures left. He used it to play host to tourists who arrived by helicopter after access to cars was cut off. A helicopter is ready to evacuate him when it becomes necessary.
