The shooting happened at around 5:30 a.m. on the 5 Freeway between Los Feliz and Western boulevards.
The Los Angeles Police Department said someone fired more than one shot at the officer. The officer was not hurt.
The LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division is investigating the incident. Anyone with information was asked to call authorities at (877) LAPD-24-7.
