Crews will begin a year-long reconstruction project to tear down and rebuild all eight of Wilshire Boulevard's on- and off-ramps to the freeway as part of a billion dollar improvements project to the interstate.
"We're only doing two ramps at a time," said Dave Sotero of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. "The First two ramps we're doing for 90 days, the other six ramps are going to vary between two weeks and three months."
The first ones to close will be closed at 10 p.m. Friday. Those will be the northbound I-405 on-ramp from westbound Wilshire Boulevard, and the westbound Wilshire Boulevard off-ramp from the northbound I-405.
Dubbed the "Ramp Jam," "Octo-Jam," "Ramp-Shire," or whatever you want to call it, it all means one thing for drivers: "It's just another gridlock situation," said Andrew Oaks of Santa Monica.
Crews will begin preparing for their work Friday at 10 p.m. Thursday.
