The mangos were sold as individual fruit in the United States between July 12 and Aug. 29. They were sold at a variety of stores including Costco, Ralphs and Whole Foods. Each fruit was also marked with a small sticker with one of the following numbers: 3114, 4051, 4311, 4584 or 4959.
The recall is being conducted in consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the California Department of Public Health. Federal officials are investigating 105 cases of salmonella that may be linked to the tropical fruit.
The most common symptoms of salmonella are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever, which develop within eight to 72 hours of eating contaminated food.
Consumers who have bought the recalled mangos are advised not to eat them and to throw them away. If you're unsure if the product you have is involved in the recall, you can contact the FDA at (866) 918-8758.
