Liquor store clerk shot in attempted robbery in Highland

HIGHLAND, Calif.

The attempted robbery happened around 6:50 p.m. Thursday at One Stop Food Store located at Base Line Street and Central Avenue.

Surveillance video captured a suspect armed with a rifle entering the store and pointing the weapon at the clerk behind the counter at the cash register. The liquor store clerk struggled briefly with the suspect before a second suspect ran into the store and fired a gunshot at the victim.

After the gunfire erupted, a third suspect was seen entering the store as the other two suspects ran out.

According to authorities, all three men fled in a dark-colored 1990s minivan, possibly a Chevy Lumina. Police said the vehicle had small "Dayton" style rims and tires.

Nothing was reported stolen from the liquor store.

The clerk was taken to a local hospital and was reportedly in stable condition.

The first suspect was described as a tall, thin, black male. He was last seen wearing a dark colored, shiny, hooded jacket and is allegedly armed with a rifle.

The second suspect was described as a black male with an average build. He was wearing a blue hooded jacket and jean shorts during the attempted robbery. Police say he is armed with a handgun.

The third suspect was also described as a black male with an average build. Surveillance video captured him wearing a white and green horizontal striped jacket with a hood and black and white plaid shorts.
