Long Beach fatal wheelchair hit-run surveillance video released

December 13, 2012 12:00:00 AM PST
Long Beach police hope surveillance video will help them catch the driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a man in a wheelchair.

The incident happened at Artesia Boulevard and Rose Avenue on Sunday night. The victim has been intentionally obscured from view in the surveillance video.

Police say 55-year-old Robert Diaz of Long Beach was trying to cross the street, when the driver hit him, throwing him from the wheelchair.

The footage shows the driver speeding away in a silver four-door sedan that may have front-end damage.

The driver was described as a Hispanic male in his 30s, about 6 feet tall, 190 to 200 pounds, with black hair.

Anyone with information was asked to call authorities at (562) 570-7355.
