Garden Grove police receive unwanted guns

GARDEN GROVE, Calif.

The police department organized the event to help keep the streets safe. It collected numerous weapons, such as guns and rifles, as well as ammunition.

Organizers hope the program will keep firearms out of the wrong hands.

"These were turned in obviously probably by citizens who just didn't want them anymore," said Garden Grove police Lt. Ted Peaslee. "But that's a good thing, because if their weapons are kept in the house, they're unsecured or something, you never know. Somebody could break in, steal something and they could be used against somebody later down the road."

Gun buyback programs will be held later this week in Los Angeles and Santa Ana.
