By late Tuesday night, the fire was 95 percent contained. Officials had earlier projected that the fire would be fully contained by Tuesday.

More than 28,000 acres of terrain have been charred at the western end of the Santa Monica Mountains since the fire broke out last Thursday in Camarillo.

Ten buildings have been destroyed. At its peak, the fire threatened 4,000 homes. All evacuations have been lifted.

The concern now shifts to potential rock or debris slides due to rain running down the burned areas. K-rail and rock barriers on a seven-mile stretch along Pacific Coast Highway were set in place as a precaution to protect motorists and roadways.

The fire is believed to have been sparked by an undetermined roadside ignition of grass or debris along the 101 Freeway. The cause remains under investigation, but arson has been ruled out.
