A man who bought a winning Powerball ticket in Southern California has lost nearly a half-million dollars since he did not claim the prize before a 5 p.m. deadline on Monday. The money will now go to California's public education system.

The Powerball ticket he purchased matched five of six numbers. Nearly six months ago, the man bought the winning ticket at the Whitley Heights Market, 1900 North Highland Ave., in Hollywood.

The $465,539 winning ticket matched the numbers 31-35-41-9-57, missing only the Powerball number of 26.

Lottery officials even released surveillance photos of the mystery winner. They say the only way the man would get the money now is if they get a letter with the ticket postmarked for Monday.
