Mary Kay Letourneau briefly jailed for missing court appearance

January 7, 2014 12:00:00 AM PST
Mary Kay Letourneau, the former teacher who served more than seven years in prison for raping a sixth grader, is in trouble with the law again.

She was arrested in Washington state on accusations she was driving with a suspended license and failed to appear in court.

A corrections spokeswoman says Letourneau was booked into the King County Jail early Monday morning and released hours later on a $5,000 bond.

The suburban Seattle teacher made headlines around the world in the 1990s after sleeping with her 12-year-old student, Vili Fualaau -- she was 34 at the time. Since being released from prison, Letourneau married Fualaau and has two children with him.
