Bobby Shriver running for Los Angeles County supervisor

LOS ANGELES

Shriver is the eldest child of the late R. Sargent Shriver and Eunice Kennedy Shriver. The 59-year-old said he wants to run for the Third District seat on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors so he can "fix things" and "shake things up at the county."

"I come from a family tradition of making a difference in people's lives. And let me tell you, Los Angeles County needs that difference," Shriver said in a statement.

He said he is committed to tackling problems in the county, such as traffic congestion, the rising rate of homelessness among veterans, the high unemployment rate, as well as the recent federal investigation into inmate abuse at the county jails.

Former state Sen. Sheila Kuehl, West Hollywood Councilman John Duran and former Malibu Mayor Pamela Conley Ulich have all declared their candidacies for the seat to replace Zev Yaroslavsky, who cannot seek re-election due to term limits. The district covers the western part of Los Angeles County.
