LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The classic black license plates, which were originally issued in the 1960s, are now back in California.
The Department of Motor Vehicles announced on Monday that it will start issuing the historic black license plates.
The move comes following a 2012 bill introduced by Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-Glendale) to create the California Legacy License Plate Program.
Those who ordered the black license plates through the Legacy License Plate Program will receive them in the next two or three weeks.
The black plates, which cost $50, were among the fastest specialty plates ever to achieve the 7,500 applications necessary to be issued, the DMV said.
