LA VERNE, Calif. (KABC) -- After an hours-long standoff, police used hot gas and high-pressure foam to flush an armed suspect out of his car after he was spotted pointing a weapon at a home in La Verne, officials said.
The man barricaded himself in his car on the front lawn of a La Verne home for at least four hours before he was finally extricated.
Police used smoke and hot gas and then began shooting foam out of high-pressure hoses into the vehicle's interior before they were finally able to remove him.
After the standoff ended, the man was being examined by paramedics.
The incident around 5 p.m. began after a Southern California Edison crew reported seeing a man get out of his car and point a gun at a home on the street.
La Verne police arrived and briefly chased the suspect until he crashed into a hydrant, shearing it off and sending water spouting in the air.
He stopped on a residential front lawn under a tree in the area of Via Del Marino and Calle Aragon.
SWAT officers surrounded the car and snipers perched on a nearby roof as they tried to convince the man to peacefully surrender. Police had also closed off nearby streets and warned residents to stay out of the area during the standoff.
