Cement truck hits parked vehicles, overturns in Beverly Hills

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- A cement truck struck several parked vehicles in Beverly Hills and then overturned on Friday. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Authorities said the crash happened in the 1000 block of Loma Vista Drive at about 11 a.m. The truck slammed into multiple parked vehicles before coming to rest at Loma Vista Drive and Drury Lane.

The driver was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition.

Police are looking into whether mechanical issues caused the driver to lose control of the truck.

The accident happened about a block away from the area where an LAPD officer was killed in a crash last month. Nicholas Choung Lee and his partner were traveling in their patrol car when they collided with a truck hauling a trash container at the intersection of Loma Vista Drive and Robert Lane on March 7.

The Beverly Hills Police Department said in a statement that since the fatal crash, they have increased commercial vehicle enforcement.

"The Beverly Hills Police Department and the City Council share the concerns from the community regarding commercial vehicles traveling in the Trousdale area and surrounding streets," the statement said. "This is a critical public safety issue which the Beverly Hills Police Department and other City departments are aggressively working together to avoid future accidents."

According to the police department, the city is developing regulations to control truck traffic on "high-risk streets."

Loma Vista Drive from Doheny Road to Wallace Ridge was expected to be closed until approximately 5 p.m.
