Boy battling cancer gets to be deputy for day
An 8-year-old cancer patient, who always wanted to know what it would be like to be a deputy sheriff, got his wish Monday.

MUSCOY, Calif. (KABC) -- An 8-year-old boy battling cancer got a taste of what it's like to be a deputy sheriff.

Odie Garcia is fighting lymphoma and just got out of the hospital a few days ago. His parents say he's always wanted to know what it would be like to be sheriff for a day.

On Monday, he got his wish with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and already has a good idea of what the job entails.

"Kick down doors, fly in helicopters, they ride motorcycles," said Odie.

Monday was just the first day of Odie's training; he's going to be sworn in as a deputy sheriff on his birthday in September.
