NEW DELHI, India -- What is 15 plus six? The answer is 21, but one groom didn't know and it cost him his bride.
Police say the couple was in the middle of their wedding ceremony in India on Wednesday when the bride tested her groom on his math skills. He said 15 plus six equaled 17, so the woman walked out. The groom's family pleaded for the woman to return and marry the man, but she said her future husband deceived everyone about his education.
"The groom's family kept us in the dark about his poor education," Mohar Singh, the bride's father, told the New York Times. "Even a first grader can answer this."
Local police mediated between the families, and both sides returned all the gifts the couple received before the wedding.
Most marriages in India are arranged by the families of the bride and groom.
