LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A puppy with chemical burns on most of his body and face was found near Boyle Heights on Thursday morning.

A Good Samaritan found the 5- or 6-month-old Chihuahua mix and turned it in to the North Central Shelter in Lincoln Heights, Los Angeles Animal Services General Manager Brenda Barnette said.

Six other dogs have suffered chemicals burns in the Antelope Valley. Two of the six dogs found with corrosive burns had to be euthanized because of the severity of their injuries.

In September, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors approved a $25,000 reward for information leading to the person or persons who harmed the dogs.

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich says the reward is a way to encourage the public to come forward with information that can help "identify, apprehend and prosecute those responsible for these depraved acts of cruelty."

The puppy is now in a full body wrap, but Barnette remains hopeful.

"We are optimistic because puppies are kind of resilient, but it's a guarded prognosis. There are major burns over his body," she said.

Anyone with information was urged to contact the city's Animal Cruelty Task Force at (213) 486-0450.
