$20,000 reward announced in unsolved Compton shooting, murder

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The city of Compton and the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors announced a $20,000 reward on Wednesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in an unsolved murder.

In January, Tauruson McMillian, 34, was on the phone with his girlfriend while driving in Compton when he was shot multiple times to death. He then crashed his vehicle into a fence. Detectives believe the shooter may have been driving a light-colored sedan.

"We are looking for witnesses who were on the street at the time, who may have seen the car or may even know the suspects," said Lt. John Corina with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Maria Villarreal believes McMillian was shot by gang members because he was driving a red car.

"I don't know if he was in the wrong town, on the wrong side. It's just really frustrating," Villarreal said.

Authorities said McMillian is not a gang member and had no known enemies. He worked for the city of Pasadena and had dreams of becoming a firefighter.

McMillian's girlfriend Pamela Adel remembers him as a man of ambition.

He was "a man that when he would smile, he would brighten up the entire room. His smile was just everything to everybody," Adel said.
