COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- An off-duty officer with the Los Angeles Police Department shot and killed a suspect during a robbery attempt, according to authorities.
The Covina Police Department said it responded to a call for a shooting inside a Carl's Jr. restaurant located at 573 N. Azusa Ave. at about 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
Detectives said preliminary information indicates the suspect pulled a weapon on the off-duty officer who then shot the man in the upper body.
When officials arrived, the suspect was declared dead at the scene. The off-duty officer was not injured.
Covina police were investigating the shooting and said the off-duty officer's name would not be released at this time.
