Shoppers to spend $2.5 billion on Cyber Monday
It's Cyber Monday, the busiest online shopping day of the year, and consumers are expected to spend about $2.5 billion this year, according to the research firm comScore.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- It's Cyber Monday, the busiest online shopping day of the year, and consumers are expected to spend about $2.5 billion this year, according to the research firm comScore.

Millions of Americans are expected to log on and shop, but they aren't seeing the jaw-dropping deals they were hoping for. Experts say that since retailers know the shoppers will come, they can play it safe with deals.

ComScore says e-commerce spending for the first 28 days of the November and December shopping season totaled $22.7 billion, up 15 percent from last year.

Last year, Amazon customers ordered more than 36.8 million items worldwide on Cyber Monday. That was a record breaking 426 items per second.

"We have 80,000 seasonal employees who are here to help us and 2,000 employees here in this facility, so we've got a lot of people who are really excited about sending all these holiday gifts out to customers," said Pia Arthur of Amazon.

Caroline Bell has worked at Amazon for just over a year. She's already one of the top 10 fastest packers at the fulfillment center in San Bernardino. She'll pack more than 1,000 boxes during her 10-hour shift Monday.

"We're eager and excited to get out a lot of packages today," she said.

Cyber Monday comes after a weekend that saw 5.3 percent fewer shoppers and 11 percent less spending, according to estimates by the National Retail Federation.

To make deliveries even faster, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos wants to one day use drones to deliver packages to homes.
