Paul Simon, Edie Brickell disorderly conduct case dropped

NORWALK, Conn. (KABC) -- The disorderly conduct case against music icon Paul Simon and his wife, singer Edie Brickell, has been dropped.

Simon, 72, and Brickell, 48, became physical with each other during an argument in April. Simon dialed 911 but hung up quickly, prompting police to respond to the home. According to police, Simon had a superficial cut on his ear and Brickell smelled of alcohol and had a bruise on her wrist.

The two appeared in court days later, holding hands and telling the judge that they had a rare argument.

The two were scheduled to make another court appearance on Tuesday, but they didn't show up. Prosecutors told a judge they were declining to pursue the case, meaning the charges will be dropped and eventually erased after 13 months.

Simon and Brickell have been married since 1992 and have three children together.

Simon is a 12-time Grammy winner and member of The Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - as half of the duo of Simon and Garfunkel and as a solo artist. Brickell collaborated last year with Steve Martin for the album "Love Has Come For You."
