LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Joel David Moore is making a mark in the morgue on ABC's "Forever." The actor says he likes being the guy who brings a little levity to the show.

Moore plays assistant medical examiner Lucas Wall.

"Lucas Wall is a good assistant M.E. but he also messes up a lot. I'm surprised that he still has a job," Moore said.

Moore works a lot with the show's leading man Ioan Gruffudd, who plays his immortal boss.

"He and I have a great energy, so we can just be fun and sporadic and whatever comes to mind we're talking about in character. So it adds an important element to a show that has so many different elements, you know? We're kind of like making 'Scooby-Doo' here without the ghosts," Moore said.

But with bosses who understand, you have to bring something to the table - like an instinct on where you're going with the character you play.

"When they kind of give you the freedom to find what it is that works, you're going to grow that scene or that beat into something that makes a lot of sense for what we're trying to do, which is make a successful show that lasts 'Forever,'" Moore said.

Moore does admit to a few mistakes, which can happen when you're from the San Fernando Valley but living in New York.

"Take the wrong train, then you figure out where Hoboken is," Moore said.
