Golden Bear honored for role in Huntington Beach history

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry performed at the Golden Bear night club in Huntington Beach. The club is long gone, but the memories are still alive.

B.B. King, Tower of Power, Steve Martin and Robin Williams -- these are just a few of the names who took the stage at the small Orange County nightclub.

The Golden Bear only fit about 300 people, but some say it was O.C.'s hub for live entertainment.

The Golden Bear was first built as a cafe in 1929. It didn't become a music club until 1963. From then on, some of the biggest names in entertainment came to perform, leaving fans with memories for a lifetime.

City leaders unveiled a new plaque honoring the place where the Golden Bear used to stand, recognizing its iconic role in Huntington Beach's history.
