Find out where you can buy gas for under $1 per gallon

As of this week, the statewide average price for a gallon of regular gas is now $2 or less in 25 states, with a nationwide gas price of $2.06 per gallon. While oil and gas prices are plummeting, some drivers can take advantage of deeper discounts than others -- thanks to your local grocery store, reports ABC News.

Fry's Food Stores

Arizona residents can get up to $1 off per gallon on fuel purchases through Fry's Food Stores, owned by The Kroger Company,.

How the fuel program at Fry's works is this: for each increment of 100 fuel points redeemed at Fry's, you get 10 cents off per gallon of fuel, for up to 35 gallons. But you can redeem up to 1,000 fuel points in a single fill-up at Fry's -- or at a participating Shell or Circle K station -- for up to $1 per gallon.

Safeway Foods

Safeway's program offers 10 cents off per gallon for every 100 points earned. For ever dollar you spend on groceries at Safeway, you get a point.

So after spending $100, and earning the required 100 points, you can get 10 cents off per gallon. After earning 200 points, you can get 20 cents off per gallon, good for a single visit at a participating Exxon Mobil station.

Walmart

For those who shop at Walmart, you can earn up to 5 cents off per gallon with a Walmart credit card, or 3 cents per gallon with a Walmart money or gift card. However, the discount offer is only valid at about 1,000 Walmart stores and Murphy USA gas stations in 21 states.

However, some states like Wisconsin won't let gasoline be sold at a loss. The Wisconsin Unfair Sales Act essentially prohibits selling gasoline without marking it up either 6 percent over cost or 9.18 percent over the local wholesale price, whichever is higher.
