Sharp rise in gun sales following San Bernardino mass shooting

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- California gun stores saw a spike in firearm and ammunition sales following the mass shooting in San Bernardino.

Reports showed the spike at local firearm stores the day after the massacre happened, and experts said it was no coincidence as gun owners fear they will lose their freedom to purchase guns.

"The knee jerk reaction of politicians is immediately after an event like this to take advantage of it for political goals and will try to restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners," said Sam Paredes, spokesman for Gun Owners of America. "So there is a natural rush to gun stores to purchase guns and ammunition."

The San Bernardino county building where the shooting occurred is a gun-free zone under state law.
