Harley Quinn Smith opens up about encounter with fake Uber drivers in Brentwood

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Harley Quinn Smith, daughter of director Kevin Smith, opened up about her experience when two fake Uber drivers attempted to kidnap her while she was waiting outside of a Brentwood Starbucks.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Smith revealed why she knew the drivers weren't with the ride-sharing company.

"As I spoke to them, I noticed that on their phone Instagram was open instead of Uber, which was another red flag," she said.

The 16-year-old high school student first detailed her story on Instagram over the weekend. Smith said she was standing outside of the coffee shop waiting for her ride, when a beige car with an Uber sticker on the front window drove up.

When she asked the two men inside who they were there for, they didn't respond and told her to get in the car.

She explained why she thought it was important to share her experience on social media.

"I thought it was really important to let people know so they can protect themselves, protect others. Just to make sure that they always ask who the car is there for," she said.

She reported the incident to police and that's when the mystery car drove off. In a response to the scary situation, her father made her a chocolate cake that said "Sorry men suck" in frosting. He also took to social media to warn others, too.
