IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- At least six families were displaced from their homes after a fast-moving fire raced through their condos in Irvine.
The three-alarm fire was first reported shortly before midnight from a condo complex at 20 Silverwood. Firefighters had the blaze under control by around 1:05 a.m. Friday.
Thirteen adults and two teenagers were forced from their homes. They received assistance from the American Red Cross.
Two cars were destroyed, three garages were completely gutted and multiple condo units were damaged. Damage is estimated to be around $1.5 million.
The flames were so intense, they melted garbage bins across the street from the fire.
Fire officials believe the blaze may have started in one of the garages, which appeared to house some sort of auto-mechanic shop.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
