LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A record-setting heatwave expected to hit the Southland this weekend has moved up the start time for the Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday.

The ASICS LA Marathon will now kick off at 6:55 a.m. at Dodger Stadium. That's a half-hour earlier than originally planned.

Participants were advised to run the course at a slower pace to take precaution against the heat, according to the marathon website.

Runners will also be starting the race in different waves to ensure there's enough space between them.

Extra water and sports drinks will be provided at the 24 aid stations, and cold towels and ice will be handed out at the finish line.
