NEW YORK (KABC) -- Hewlett-Packard is recalling more than six million notebook computer AC power cords in North America because of possible overheating that can pose a fire and burn hazard.

The power cords were distributed with HP and Compaq notebook and mini-notebook computers from September 2010 to June 2012.

HP says the power cords have "LS-15" molded on the AC adapter end of the cord. They were manufactured in China.

HP has received 29 reports of power cords overheating and melting or charring, resulting in two claims of minor burns and 13 claims of minor property damage.

Consumers are urged to stop using the cords immediately and contact HP for a free replacement.

Customers can call HP at (877) 219-6676 or visit www.hp.com for more information.
