"Don't do it." That's what Los Angeles Country Sheriff Robert Luna has to say to anyone who's considering tampering with the election.

A handful of ballots were found burned in a downtown L.A. drop box, and a vote center in Long Beach was vandalized.

"There are going to be significant consequences and our D.A., I assure everyone out there, we will be looking for additional charges as it relates to anything election related," the sheriff said.

Long Beach police say they don't believe the center was targeted because it's a vote center.

As for the ballots burned, it's unclear how many there were but the Registrar says you'd be contacted if your ballot was impacted.

While making her final push Monday, Bass told Eyewitness News she's not concerned about being shut out of the November runoff.

"I don't. There are lots and lots of polls out there. I do not have concern. I would never, ever be cavalier. I would never just be presumptuous. But I don't know that any candidate is. But, on the other hand, I think I will be fine," Bass said.

More than 500 additional vote centers open in LA County

There are nearly 650 voting centers open cross Los Angeles County.

Registered voters can visit any vote center in the county, regardless of where they live. If you filled out a mail-in ballot, you can return it at any voter center or official ballot drop box.

Eligible voters who have not registered can visit any vote center, complete a conditional voter registration and cast a ballot. Once the registration is validated through the statewide database, the ballot will be processed like all others, officials said.

On Election Day, the centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Los Angeles County Registrar Dean Logan discussed the multiple layers of checks and balances to make sure voting is done in an open, secure and transparent manner during Eyewitness Newsmakers with Marc Brown.

"There's the ability for voters to track their own ballot. There's the ability for interested parties to come in and observe the process. We livestream our process from our ballot processing center, and we conduct audits after Election Day to make sure that everything is as intended," Logan said.
