All of the rain this weekend forced a swift water rescue on Sunday in Westminster.

Firefighters were called to a waterway near Bolsa Avenue and Goldenwest Street around 12:30 p.m., where a man was trapped in the waterway.

A swiftwater rescue firefighter was lowered down and was able to bring the man to safety.

Firefighters say the victim had been in the water for some time and was hanging onto a concrete structure when they arrived.

He was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for hypothermia.

A man was killed Saturday after he was swept away in a Santa Barbara County creek amid the Southern California storm.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened just before 12 p.m. when a family called 911 about a man that had been swept into the Maria Ygnacio Creek.

"Despite an extensive and coordinated search effort under hazardous conditions, the man was located at approximately 1:50 p.m.," said the sheriff's office in a statement. "He was found deceased in the creek near the intersection of San Marcos Road and Via Parva."

The man has not been identified.

With heavy rain continuing across the region, authorities are urging people to stay clear of creeks, rivers, drainage channels, and other waterways.

"Water levels can rise rapidly, and currents may be stronger than they appear," said the sheriff's office. "Do not attempt to cross flooded roads or walk near swollen creeks. If you encounter a flooded roadway or hazardous water conditions, turn around - don't drown."

Then, scattered on-again-off-again showers are expected throughout the morning and into the early afternoon.

The rain is expected to get heavier again heading into Sunday evening and night, before the storm system moves east and out of our area overnight and into Monday.

More chances for rain move in for the work week, but for now, it looks like the rain chances will be much lower.
