LOMITA, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect was hospitalized after being struck in a deputy-involved shooting in Lomita Thursday afternoon.
Authorities said around 6:15 p.m. a male driver in a silver Volvo would not pull over for deputies. The driver eventually drove his car into another car in a liquor store parking lot. He and a female passenger then tried to run after the crash, deputies said.
Deputies said the man was armed with a black handgun and opened fire. The deputies shot back and struck the suspect in the torso.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive, authorities said.
The woman was detained for questioning, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. John Corina said. The relationship between the man and woman was unclear, he added.
No deputies were injured in the shooting. The investigation was ongoing.
