INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A motor scooter driver was killed in a crash on the 405 Freeway in Inglewood early Friday morning, prompting an hourslong closure of all southbound lanes at the scene.
California Highway Patrol officers and Los Angeles County firefighter-paramedics responded to the crash site, just north of Florence Avenue, about 1:45 a.m. The motorist, described only as a man, was pronounced dead at the scene after being run over by several vehicles.
The CHP issued a SigAlert and diverted southbound traffic off the interstate at La Cienega Boulevard.
The lane closure ended at 5:45 a.m. after coroner's officials removed the body from the highway.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
A bumper was said to have been in the roadway after the collision, but CHP investigators could not confirm if that piece of debris contributed to the incident.
"There may be multiple vehicles that either hit the body or hit the scooter, and didn't realize what happened and continued on their way," said CHP Officer Cabri Griffin.
