WALNUT, Calif. (KABC) -- A middle school in Walnut was closed for the day as a precaution while bomb squad officials investigated a suspicious package found at a nearby bus stop.
Authorities said a call came in around 6:30 a.m. regarding a suspicious package found at a bus stop near La Puente and Suzanne roads. Suzanne Middle School was closed for the day as a precaution, but Walnut High School remained open on a limited lockdown.
La Puente Road was shut down between Pierre Road and Gartel Drive as bomb squad officials inspected the package.
Around 9:50 a.m., the package was rendered safe, but a citizen flagged down a deputy reporting another suspicious package at Citadel Drive and La Puente Road, less than a mile away.
Authorities eventually rendered it safe.
