Former Murrieta mayor charged with DUI

MURRIETA, Calif. (KABC) -- A former mayor of Murrieta was charged Thursday with driving under the influence during a crash that injured four teenage girls earlier this month.

Alan William Long, 44, was charged with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury with sentencing enhancements for each of the four victims.

On Oct. 16, Long was allegedly driving his pick-up truck when he rear-ended a car at the intersection of Jefferson and Lily avenues. The four girls inside the car - between 14 and 17 - were injured as a result. Murrieta police arrested Long at the scene.

Prosecutors allege that the night of the crash Long's blood alcohol concentration was 0.08 percent, the limit under California law when a driver is considered impaired.

Long has issued an apology to the victims and has since resigned from office. He is scheduled to be arraigned in a Murrieta court on Dec. 11.
