Antelope Valley College classes to resume following threats against campus

LANCASTER, Calif. (KABC) -- Classes were temporarily canceled at Antelope Valley College on Tuesday after authorities said someone issued threats of violence against the school to multiple students via text message.

Late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, authorities from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lancaster Station took several reports from students about the unspecified threat.

Deputies were patrolling both campuses located at 3041 W. Ave K, in Lancaster, and 1529 E. Palmdale Blvd., in Palmdale.

Several students received messages that warned to stay away from campus because something bad was going to happen, according to deputies. Authorities said a threat was also posted on social media.

Increased police patrols were expected for the rest of the day. A message posted on the school's website stated that night classes will resume at 6 p.m. Tuesday at all AVC locations, and that all offices and classes are scheduled for regular business hours on Wednesday.

The sheriff's department found nothing suspicious on the campuses as of Tuesday afternoon.
