FULLERTON, Calif. (KABC) -- Los Angeles Lakers Legend Jamaal Wilkes had a helpful surprise for a military family on Wednesday.

The NBA Hall of Famer was on hand in Fullerton to present Petty Officer First Class Karla Auqillaencalada and her family with a year of free groceries from Albertsons.

Auqillaencalada has served in the Navy for more than 14 years and is currently a command career counselor for hundreds of enlisted service members.

She is raising two sons while stationed in California and recently graduated from college with an associate degree.

The grocery donation was made possible by Eckrich and its partnership with Operation Homefront, a non-profit that provides financial assistance to families of service members and wounded warriors.

Nearly 400 employees from Eckrich, Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions were on hand at the Albertsons' Southern California headquarters to honor and thank Auqillaencalada for her service.
