POMONA, Calif. (KABC) -- A woman and her brother-in-law were fatally shot while sitting on their front porch in Pomona Friday night. No suspects or motives have been identified.
"They shot like 12 or 13 times," said Freddie Porter.
Freddie Porter says his family cannot make sense of why gunmen opened fire on his 49-year-old sister, Bennie Porter, and his 59-year-old brother-in-law, Lafrella Alexander, as they say on the front porch of the family's home around 11:45 p.m. Friday.
Freddie Porter says the tragedy happened as he and other family members where wrapping up his birthday party inside.
"Whatever it was, they came to kill, because they stood over the bodies and shot. We found casings on the bodies," said Porter.
Police say despite having some success lowering violent crime on the streets of Pomona, shootings like this one remind them there is a lot more work to be done. Detectives need the public's help catching the suspect or suspects.
"The investigation is still ongoing. The motive is unknown. We're still seeking witnesses or anybody that may have any information related to the case," said Pomona Police Sgt. Patrick O'Malley.
Porter says over the nearly 20 years he has lived in Pomona, several of his family members have been shot to death by gangs mistaking them for members of rival gangs. But police have no motive in the murders of Porter and Alexander.
Freddie Porter says it's just senseless violence.
"Innocent people, and the people that did it is getting away with it," said Porter. "They're not getting the person that did it. They're getting some innocent person. Somebody's mother, somebody's sister, somebody's father."
Porter says his family is moving. "We are gone."
Anyone with information related to the case is asked to call L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
