Armed suspect who barricaded self in East LA home dies in deputy-involved shooting

EAST LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An armed suspect who barricaded himself for hours inside of an East Los Angeles home died at a local hospital after a deputy-involved shooting broke out Wednesday.

The suspect, who has not been identified, had exited the home after being barricaded inside for nearly six hours. When he left, authorities said he was holding a handgun in a threatening manner which led to the shooting.

The man was shot in the upper torso several times and was taken to LAC+USC Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities said the suspect was wanted for a kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon incident that happened on March 19 near Rowan Avenue and Cesar Chavez Boulevard in Los Angeles.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Major Crimes Bureau personnel were conducting an investigation on the male suspect. Around 10 a.m., the man fled from authorities into a home in the 6400 block of Northside Drive.

The residents inside the home were able to escape unharmed. Authorities then surrounded the residence and evacuated several homes nearby as a precaution.

Details surrounding the kidnapping and assault were not immediately released. The investigation was ongoing.
