Dozens turn to church, prayer in aftermath of Paris attacks

WEST LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Local places of worship opened their doors Sunday to all those who wanted to pray and heal in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks that erupted in Paris.

"I think people just want to get some kind of solace about what is happening right now and how severe it is," Gregory Rosete said.

A service in French was dedicated to all of those affected by the event at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in west Los Angeles.

Members of the Los Angeles Islamic Center also gathered in prayer and condemned Friday's acts of terror, which left more than 120 people dead and hundreds injured.

"We share the pain with all the French people because I feel as French as Egyptian origin as American now. We resent completely all absurdity and all bad things happening around us in the world," member Iman Omar said.

Many people said they turn to their faith to help them grieve and show solidarity with France.

Around the globe countries showed their support. As Paris went dark, the rest of the world turned its lights on, illuminating the colors of the French flag.

"Our prayers are with them. I mean it's a horrible time and we feel very bad for them," parishioner Tere Ramirez said.
