SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KABC) -- A dolphin that was transported to SeaWorld San Diego after being rescued by Los Angeles County Fire Department lifeguards in San Pedro has died.
The 1-year-old dolphin was rescued from Royal Palms Beach Saturday morning and transported to the animal theme park in stable condition.
"The estimated 1-year-old dolphin was treated with a broad spectrum antibiotic, and our animal care team cared for him around the clock, including providing a flotation jacket and helping him swim," according to a post on SeaWorld San Diego's Facebook page.
His condition began to decline Tuesday, and he passed away shortly after 3 p.m. A necropsy will be performed to determine the dolphin's cause of death.
