SAN BERNARDINO NATIONAL FOREST (KABC) -- All evacuations were lifted for the Pilot Fire on Friday as the blaze was listed at 80 percent containment.
The fire has burned through 8,115 acres in the San Bernardino National Forest. More than 1,100 firefighting personnel were engaged in battling the blaze.
The Pilot Fire started as just a 30-acre wildfire on Aug. 7 near the Pilot Rock Conservation Camp above Silverwood Lake, but quickly spread through the San Bernardino National Forest over brush left dry by the ongoing drought.
It led to thousands of voluntary and mandatory evacuations as well as school closings because of the heavy, thick smoke that filled the air.
Full containment is expected by Sunday evening.
