California lawmaker proposes plastic straw ban

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- First it was plastic bags. Up next, will California ban plastic straws?

An environmental group report says that over half a billion plastic straws are used and discarded by Americans every day.

Assemblyman Ian Calderon has proposed prohibiting sit-down restaurants from providing them unless requested by the customer.

Meanwhile, several Los Angeles City Council members today put forward a local ordinance that would do the same.
