Door-to-door health checks for Porter Ranch residents

PORTER RANCH, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Health officials are going door-to-door in Porter Ranch neighborhoods on Thursday to check up on residents affected by the gas leak.

This health check comes after residents have been reporting headaches, dizziness and nosebleeds weeks after the natural gas leak was completely capped.

Recent air quality measurements show that levels are back to normal, and the expectation was that residents would report health improvements.

However, after the well was sealed, some residents are still reporting illnesses similar to those when the leak was still active.

Residents are also reporting hard-to-remove oily brown spots on their property. Southern California Gas Co. says those spots do not pose any health risks and have offered to remove them for homeowners.

Meanwhile, an indoor quality assessment of 200 homes in the area has been put on hold. The results of the door-to-door checkups will be presented to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors later Wednesday.
