DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One person died and seven others were taken to a hospital after a suspected overdose incident at the Men's Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday morning.
The incident unfolded around 8:40 a.m. at the facility on Bauchet Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
All those involved were inmates at the jail. They were in a holding cell waiting to be transported to court, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Deputies administered Narcan and CPR was given to a 32-year-old man who was pronounced dead at the scene. A cause of death will be determined by the L.A. County Medical Examiner's Office.
The other inmates were in stable condition and expected to survive. The inmates were between 18-68 years old.
The L.A. Fire Department's hazmat team rushed in to decontaminate the inmates before they were taken to the hospital and to check anyone else possibly at risk.
No deputies were injured or involved in the incident.
