NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A report of a possible man with a gun at a middle school in North Hollywood prompted a lockdown on Friday morning and was later determined to be a swatting incident.
The lockdown began shortly before 9 a.m. at Walter Reed Middle School in the 4500 block of Irvine Avenue, just south of the 101 Freeway.
"The campus will remain on 'lockdown' until law enforcement gives the 'all-clear' to re-open the campus," a statement sent to parents by the school's principal said. "All procedures are being implemented according to District policy. In addition, our staff is well trained and regularly reviews safety procedures."
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to the campus and found the report to be unfounded. The school was reopened at 9:18 a.m. and normal operations resumed.
"We thank parents and staff for their patience and cooperation and appreciate everyone's support in helping keep our school safe and secure," a follow-up statement from the principal said.
No one was in custody in connection with the incident, which remained under investigation.
