FRESNO, Calif. -- Generous donors from all over the Fresno area have helped raise more than $17,000 for a little girl whose foot was severed in an accident.

Rosie Mendez was sliding down a slide in her backyard two weeks ago, when her father ran over her foot by accident with a lawnmower. She lost four toes and a part of her foot, and was taken to San Francisco for specialized care.

A Fresno police officer who responded to the scene has set up a GoFundMe account that has raised thousands of dollars, including an anonymous donation of $10,000. Unfortunately, the medical costs for the family are still growing.

"The last few days we found out that she has apparently developed a bacterial infection where the foot was severed, so now the family is incurring additional costs. She had to go to Children's Hospital," said Officer Paige McQuay.

The GoFundMe account is still open for anyone who would like to donate to Rosie and her family: www.gofundme.com/j1rifo.
