CurbStand valet app sees success at Runyon Canyon

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Finding parking at popular Runyon Canyon is tough. Some might say tougher than hike through the park.

"Sometimes you come here to hike and you spend 45 minutes looking for parking," said hiker Beth Schroeder.

Enter: CurbStand. In the true essence of the Hollywood lifestyle, you can now valet your ride at the park. Hikers were more than eager to hand their keys over at the intersection of Fuller and Hillside avenues.

"I was blown away because I didn't know this was here. Great surprise," said hiker Connor Huff.

The service is simple: Just pull your car up, and they take care of everything else. But you have to have the CurbStand app on your smartphone in order to pay. The valets don't accept cash. The service is $5, and the tip is up to you.

"L.A. is just notorious for having parking lots and saying hey you gotta pay to park here. I'd rather drive around and burn the extra calories parking far and walking up," said hiker Julie Gibson.

The cars are parked at Magic Castle. When you're done with your run, just check-in with the app.

"We tell them up to about 15 or 20 minutes before they get back down to actually start requesting their cars. Because you can request your car we can actually park your car a lot further away," said Serge Gojkovich, CEO of CurbStand.

Right now the service is only available on the weekends from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. But if demand stays high, the hours will be extended.
